The plucked string instruments are played by plucking the strings with fingers or plectrums(拨子 ).Every instrument is different from others .I just choose three of them to introduce .Guqin,Pipa and Zheng.
Guqin(古琴)，it is a plucked seven-string Chinese musical instrument of the ziher family with a history of more than 3000 years. The prefix “gu-”(meaning “ancient ”)was later added for clarification. It can also be called qixianqin (meaning “seven-stringed instrument”).Guqin has traditionally been favored by scholars and literati as an instrument of great subtlety and refinement.Guqin has always been viewed as the first place among the four Chinese high culture activities such as Guqin, Chess, calligraphy and painting.
Pipa(琵琶)，a traditional plucked string of East Asia, has 2000 years of history. The first to be known as the “Pipa” instrument emerged around China during the Qing Dynasty .“Pipa”This name is derived from the so-called “pushing hands as loquat, loquat cited in hand"(the most basic plucked-string technique ),so called “loquat ”(pipa). The most common Pipa has a body with a short neck and a wooden belly(肚 ) . On the neck there are 19 to 26 bamboo frets, which are either made of wood ,jade, or elephant. Chinese Pipa also spread to East Asia , the Japanese lute into the present, North Korea, and Vietnam pipa lute are all developed from it .
